Barron & Allen Lawyers Mackay are passionate about cars and want to keep our car enthusiasts up to date on the law. Here is #2 of our Top 10 driving law count down. #2 Demerit points - The old days of having so many points and losing them when you commit a traffic offence are gone. In Queensland, you start with zero points and demerit points are added to your traffic record when you commit certain offences. The demerit point period is now much longer. For open licence holders, you will be sent a Notice by the Transport Department if, within a 3 year period, you get 12 or more demerit points. You need to choose between taking a licence suspension (e.g. 3-month suspension for 12-15 demerit point) or good a behaviour period for 1 year. P platers will get the notice for 4 or more points. That’s just once being caught on the phone! Please like and share, and keep an eye out for No. #1.
